Ashlyn Murray was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes when she was only 14 years old. She has a positive outlook on life and says that she has still been able to enjoy being a teenager despite the fact that her blood sugar is nine times the normal blood sugar level. Since being diagnosed two years ago, Ashlyn says, “I have had some very great times and some very low moments.”
Ashlyn checks her blood sugar over 10 times a day, has experienced discomfort, weight fluctuation, and allergic reactions to medication. Ashlyn manages to find the silver lining of each moment living with diabetes, but that is not enough. She is unable to fully enjoy being a teenager because of the danger of doing independent activities. Ashlyn has a service dog, Callie Sky, but training the dog for the many health situations a Type I diabetic can encounter is costly.
We are inspired by Ashlyn’s faith, humbleness, and acceptance of her chronic illness. She deserves our support and help so that she can have the confidence to enjoy life as a normal 16-year-old should. We are raising funds for the training of her service dog, Callie Sky.
